When you just start learning chess, you most likely have learnt openings first. Opening principles can give players an early advantage of the game. Top players spent lots of time studying these lines just to gain an early advantage at the start of the chess battle.

In this video, I used Stockfish from Depth 18 to 40 (I will show you a time lapse at the end!) to analyse this normal set up position:

This is the most common position you will probably see. However, when I inserted this into the analysis, 4 top openings took turns to become the top, so I decided these 4 openings are the top 4 chess openings. They are all good, and I recommend you pick the one you feel the most comfortable with playing.

Introduction

The King's Pawn Opening is the most famous chess opening and most commonly played.

According to Chess.com Master Games Database, the wk.png's Pawn Opening was played around 1.4 million times. Following up, the wq.png's Pawn Opening was played around 1 million times. wn.pngf3, the Réti Opening, is the third most played opening in the Titled Chess World, and the 4th most played opening is the English Opening. Let me show you all these openings.

King's Pawn Opening (1. e4)

Queen's Pawn Opening (1. d4)

Reti Opening (1. Nf3)

English Opening (1. c4)

Here are the top 4 chess openings. They have the same purpose-to grab for the centre of the board. d4 and e4 directly controls the centre, and reti opening controls centre with the knight. The c4 pawn in the English controls the d5 square. Check out this video for the time lapse as promised as well as explanations and best lines of these openings, enjoy!
