It is better to draw a game than lose it. In this article you’ll learn how to draw games. 

Here are the types of draws that we will use:

  1. Threefold Repetition & Perpetual Check,
  2. Stalemate,
  3. Insufficient Mating Material

Threefold Repetition & Perpetual Check

The Threefold Repetition rule draws the game when a position repeats itself three times in a row. Here is an example:

The Perpetual Check is Threefold Repetition but with checks:

Stalemate

Stalemate is a position where a king cannot move, isn’t checked and it’s pieces can’t move:

King and Rook checkmate:

Insufficient Mating Material

The insufficient mating material rule says that the game is immediately declared a draw if there is no way to end the game in checkmate. Example:
