Pawn is The Best Piece

Today I will be explaining about my point of view how a pawn is the best piece on the basic 64 - square chessboard.

The uses of pawns are as follows:

1. Defending the king in the starting of the game.

In the starting of the game, the pawns are all ahead of the king and the other chess pieces. This is crucial for the game so that the pawns defend the king, prevent it from being attacked. This is how the pawns protect the king and other pieces in the starting of the game. The first reason why pawns are my favourite piece.

2. Defending the position while being attacked.

As I have explained this in the first reason, pawns are really a key for good defence and excellent play. Here are some examples in how pawns help to protect and safeguard the king.

As you can see in the given example, the pawns help in protecting the king. A huge 'battery' is created on the g file by black, trying to create attacking chances to win the game. But the powerful connection of the pawns prevent this dangerous attack. This is how pawns protect the king in situations like these. In this position white also has a slight advantage.

This position is not a real life example. But it signifies how strong the pawns are in blocking the position and preventing possible counterplay from black due to the strong pawn chain created by white.
3. Attacking possibilities and breakthroughs
This is common in opposite side castling where attacking is important for a major piece advantage or king safety. Here is an example showing the same.

In this position, the white pawns have an important breakthroughs which are h5, and f5.

That's all for today! I hope you enjoyed. There are more reasons why a pawn in my favourite piece. All of the other reasons will come in part two! Don't forget to leave a comment and follow my blog!
