Hello everyone,

Our today’s topic is ‘Waiting Move’.I hope you’ll enjoy and learn something new. So,sit back, relax and read.Thanking you in anticipation.

In the above position,we should play a waiting move like Be7 after which we can deliver a checkmate(second diagram). Here are the  answers of  some common questions

What exactly is a waiting move?

A waiting move is a sort of move after which our opponent falls in zugzwang*(One doesn’t want to move but is forced to move).

What is the advantage of a waiting move?

A waiting move is played when we get a a checkmate or an possessive advantage, especially in the minor pieces’ checkmate.

How can we figure out that a waiting move is needed?

We can figure out that a waiting move is needed when we cannot deliver a checkmate immediately or if we play that move directly it’ll result in a stalemate.

What will happen if we miss a waiting move.

Its completely fine if we miss a waiting move as we’re humans. But if we miss it at a particular position,we would have to make 2 waiting moves.

What will happen if we don’t play a waiting move?

If we don’t play a waiting move, the game will result in a stalemate aka draw.

I hope you enjoyed and learned something new. And don’t  forget to follow me.Here’s a puzzle and an example of a waiting move.THANKS.
