I always liked chess, I found it intriguing, but I didn't play. Probably because there are many things in life that you find intriguing, fun or exciting that you never get around to. My father tought me to play when I was little and then I played some games against him and my sister and later at my tabletennis club a few more, but it didn't exceed hundred games total.

Two weeks ago I was watching Lex Veldhuis' stream and whilst he normally streams poker, he has something called 'variety friday' at which he plays a variety of games. At this particular day he played some chess with a little help from Bikfoot and I thought; why not give it a try myself?

The rest is history, I'm hooked! I really enjoy to challenge and improve myself and the beautiful art called chess is a wonderful challenge. Of course I'm improving rapidly since I didn't play for 30 years and barely knew anything besides the movement of the pieces, but it's the improvement that motivates me and probably will keep me motivated.

The moral of this story is, you are never to old to begin something you enjoy doing. I'm 42 years old and I know I'll never become a great chessplayer, but let's see how far I can push myself!
