Although the Bird's opening is a rare opening to come by, it is always better to be prepared, and this is where the Raymond Counterattack comes in. It is a powerful counterattack from black which allows him to launch his pieces on the kingside board, where white is more likely to castle in the Bird's opening.

It starts with f4 f5 and Nf3 g6, and then black wants to go e6 later on to allow his queen to join the attack on the now open king, which is the Bird's opening biggest weakness.

So, if someone ever tries to surprise you with Bird's opening, you are now ready with a counterattack approved by Stockfish itself, as this gives you a -0,5 advantage after the first two moves.
