Madrid Chess Cheating Scandal
Well… we’re back at it again more chess cheating scandals. This time it’s in Madrid in a tournament in which a few big names like GothamChess, Anna Crambling, and Eric Rosen are taking part. However, in the open section in round 3 a Reddit post claims there was a person who cheated by looking at a computer that was meant for streaming purposes that had his game and the eval. He said that this happened on move 15. So after looking into the tournament, I found this game https://www.chess.com/events/2024-madrid-chess-festival-open/03/Guerrero_Vargas_Andres_Jesus-Eche_Sylvain to be the one that matched this description. The one who was cheating obviously was black as he was the one who forfeited. After this, a lot of you probably know that a “player-organizer” left his section to see the board which apparently violated FIDE’s rules. The post said that this person is a famous streamer and when you look at the list it’s seems likely that he’s referring to GothamChess. While I don’t know what’s going to happen to him, I noticed that the guy who cheated is still playing in this tournament after it happened. While I’m not asking for change, I wonder why. Maybe it’s because it’s a 1 time event. More details may come but for now that’s all I got. I believe this information is accurate, but if you have anything that suggests that that this information is wrong, comment it.
