what is a gambit ?

Gambit,Sacrificing our pawn or knight or bishop or rook or even queen. That sacrifice may be for the followinng reasons...

1.Lead in developement.

2.Some other compensation.

3.May be a deflection.

4.May be a checkmate.

5.Creating open files for attacks.

6.Exposing the enemy king.

Here, I have inserted a board with smith morra gambit in which you can see that c pawn sacrificed..which meets some reasons I mentioned earlier..I hope you got something about Gambit...
