Epic match, tricky opponent - dailypuzzle
Dailypuzzle, approaching 1,000,000 profile views, with 50,000+ views per posted content everyday, makes him/her one of the most famous members of chess.com community. Everytime at 9:00 am CET (midnight PST), a big number of members is waiting for the new puzzle, refresing their pages to post the comment on the new forum post as fast as possible and announce being first. Or something more clever.
With this day, I announce that I will retire from racing for the first spot on the daily puzzle comment section. I'd like to thank to all members who supported me through the years. Many records were achieved, there were good and bad days, but I enjoyed every moment of it. I'll do some occasional, promo-racing appearances in the future, but that's it. Thanks to all!
I gathered some facts together to present them in a timeline now. You can click on the title to see the link:
Quite a funny story behind. It was the 2nd time the puzzle was posted this day. Some bug happened I believe and the puzzle was no longer accessible. When the 2nd puzzle appear I accidentally clicked on it and saw there is no comment yet. I quickly tried to come up with a decent comment, but erik has already beaten me. From there on, I decided to become 'the fastest'.
Nothing more to say. I figured out the puzzle is posted exactly at 9:00 CET and that you just have to be quick. As Mikaela Shiffrin said: "If you're not on the edge, you can pretty much know you're not going fast."
It was just a matter of time when dailypuzzle will be defeated. Just kidding. But yeah, it came as a surprise, nobody has ever done it before and many members were either amazed or upset. And I was wizard and stuff like this. But hey, this day I actually was the first one who could legimately say "First!".
Later, mods erased my comment because it was obviously strange to beat the mighty dailypuzzle, but ghost of it is still there as a quote.
This one is deleted, again, but I have a proof I'd like to share with you. I finally managed to record a video of it. It was also the fourth #1 of the month.
I'd say that on this day, lots of members tried to access the puzzle as soon as possible and the site broke down at 9:00. I was on the lucky side and tried to post a comment from the new mobile app. I managed to do it and wondered why there is no comment below me. The difference between my and MeTristan's comment differed from 4 to 5 minutes, so I assumed I beat everybody by approximately 270 secs. New record I believe!
June 3rd was very special for Slovenia. Me and my friend, with whom I played more games than I did with Computer1-EASY, occupied the first 2 spots and recorded the first and the only one-two win for Slovenia on dailypuzzle posts.
I think we both were in school at the time at 9:00. High-five, mate!
Another glitch this time, the page didn't load. I quickly recognised the trick, rushed to the mobile app and posted 7 comments in a row. To be honest, I could have filled the whole first page, but I rather didn't risk being banned from the site. I made a nice & hopefully funny conversation with myself. And set a new record of most consecutive 'first' comments on Daily Chess Puzzles.
And here it is, my last competitive race. I'm glad I beat NomadicKnight, who was and is one of the best racers there and was very tough to beat. Unfortunately I had some internet problems when he rose up, so no side-by-side fight in these days. Best of luck in the future to him, MeTristan and others.
However, I won't completely stop posting on dailypuzzle forums. I will still try to post a better puzzle, beat those guys or simply beat the OP. I'm near the end of this blog now, I think I've written numerous of stupid words, dunno why tho. Take care.
