Big Prized Events - Smash and Grab

In 2020 I came to the conclusion that prized events are the same as driving with cash displayed on your front seat.

You can be as philosophical as you want to, but someone will at some stage break the window and grab the cash!

For those who still call for prized events... You will find them widely available, but you must then be ready to see that there is a "smash and grab" for the cash lying around. Or even worse, join into the culture and "smash and grab" the cash before anyone else can frustrated.png

For myself - In the 150 odd events I hosted this year, two had small prize money and those were also the ones where players tried to "smash and grab" the R100 ($7) up for grabs.  These were in March, April and ever since then I do not put the temptation out there to "smash and grab".

So be part of the solution and not the problem:

  • Do not support prized events

Proposed solution:

  • Pressure the organizers to get rid of prized events
  • Pay the titled / top players an appearance fee
  • Have lucky draws based on participation
  • Give medals and trophies to winners (If you know the players well)
