How to think ahead like Hikaru!

You may or may not know Hikaru for his insane premoving technique, or his thinking strategy perhaps. Well, how exactly does he find moves 10+ away that will lead to an advantage or mate. One thing that he covers a lot in his YouTube Videos and Twitch Livestreams is development. Usually he is looking for a way to develop 2 (or more) pieces in a row. He looks for the best moves his opponents can play in between each of his moves, so that he doesn't just throw out a random premove. Since a majority of his opponents are Grandmasters or at least titled players, they usually don't blunder much. Occasionally, he will play a random, offsetting move to try to throw his opponent away from predicting his next moves. Also, Hikaru spends hours playing puzzles to find out new tactics and tricks such as checkmate, checks, or just gaining material. Also he has been playing chess for a very, very long time, so don't beat yourself up if you don't see mate in 109. But, by far the most important thing, is to keep trying to get better and don't give up. Even if you lose, analyze your games to find new or missed tactics and just keep working towards that goal.
