241 in Wplace, a tribute to chess
Dear friends! Today we're joining our passion with Wplace, a collaborative pixel art project (launched a month ago), where any user can paint the world map with pixels of any color.
Chess lovers, as we are an international club, we decided to make India our home on Wplace for the following reasons:
1) The first reason is obvious: we pay tribute to the origin of chess, which was in India, which perfectly unites the theme of the game, the international spirit of our community, and the collaborative nature of wplace.live.
2) The second reason: we analyzed the entire Wplace map, and among other things, we observed that India has a relatively modest presence on wplace.live considering its vast population and cultural richness. This makes your mission not only a tribute, but also an opportunity to help balance the map in a meaningful and respectful way.
We Selected 3 Iconic Cities for Tribute (Origin of Chess)
1. Kannauj (Uttar Pradesh) - The Capital of the Empire where Chaturanga evolved
Why? Kannauj was the capital of the Maukhari Empire and later the Gurjara-Pratihara Empire, a crucial center of power in northern India during the 6th to 9th centuries, just as chaturanga (the direct ancestor of chess) was developing and becoming popular.

2. Ellora (Maharashtra) - The Tangible Connection
Why? Although not a city, the Ellora temple complex is one of India's most impressive World Heritage sites. Some theories link the spread of strategic games to the trade and cultural routes that passed through these regions. It's a symbol of classical India.
Our tribute is geolocated near the Ellora temples, a symbol of the greatness of classical India, where our passion was born.

3. Delhi - The Point of Dissemination to the World
Why? From the Delhi Sultanate and later the Mughal Empire, chess (then called shatranj) took hold and from there began its journey to Persia and the rest of the world via the Silk Road.
Help us build on the coordinates of Delhi, the center from which shatranj (chess) rode to Persia and conquered the world.
