Although English is the universal language, there is algebraic notation or chess language which is simple, but it took me a while to get used to it at first. It helps us to: talk to other players, analyze games, play chess by votes, follow the stories of the commentators in a competition, etc.

In addition, because some words or terms are specific to the game, they do not obey a simple translation.

Basic terms (English/Spanish)
Game of chess: Partida de ajedrez
Chess board: Tablero:
Squares: Casillas
Chess piece: Pieza de ajedrez
King, K: Rey
Queen, Q: Dama
Rook, R: Torre
Bishop, B: Alfil
Knight, N: Caballo
Pawn P: Peón (although, by convention, the P is often omitted from the notation)
White chessmen: Piezas blancas
Black chessmen: Piezas negras
Castling: enrocarse
Kingside castling: enroque corto
Queenside castling: enroque largo
Check: jaque
Perpetual check: Jaque continuo
Checkmate: jaque mate
Stalemate: ahogado
Stalemate: tablas

How to score a move
Indicate the name of the piece and the square to which it moves. If a piece is captured, we include the x symbol before the destination square.

Special symbols

x : capture

0-0 : short castling

0-0-0 : long castling

+ : check

# : checkmate

! : good move

? : bad move

I hope you find it useful. If you have more words to contribute, I invite you to make a long list together.

In our 241 club, we develop the Passport 241 Series which has variants, 5 out of 8 tournaments are variants. Don't miss it the second weekend of every monthhappy
