How I broke 1700 USCF
Today, I finally broke the 1700 rating barrier after three years of playing tournament chess. I did it by winning a nice game against my friend, SC, who was rated 1723. After my victory, my rating went up to 1713 (+19). The time control for the game was 70 minutes per person.
In the game, we quickly reached an interesting and roughly equal position. While trying to attack my king, however, my opponent overlooked the threats that I had against his position, and ended up losing catastrophic amounts of material. From there, I was able to shut down all of his counter-play and then force him to resign in view of looming checkmate. You can view the annotated game by clicking the link below. I hope you enjoy!
