At the end of the 19th century Siegbert Tarrasch, one of the strongest players at this times, invented and popularised an active way of playing against Queen's Gambit - 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 c5
He admired c5 move to that point that he always put an exclamation mark on it.

Nowadays, opening called Tarrasch Defense is maybe not the most popular answer against 1.d4, but still it can cause a lot of problems for the white.

In my opinion Tarrasch Defense still can be a good weapon against 1.d4, especially if opponent is not a strong grandmaster that knows how to play in a very accurate way.
