All You Need To Know About The New Puzzle System

Chess.com has recently come up with a new puzzle update. This new update is now known as "journeys". This new puzzle system is a long journey to complete and takes a lot of time and dedication and so far no one has reached the end.

How does this new system work?

This new system adopts a point system rather than the classic rating system. But you have a choice to use this new puzzle system by going into puzzle settings and toggling the switch that states "Collect Puzzle Points". Although you have this choice, either way whether you have the puzzle points system on or not, if you get a puzzle incorrect you will lose your puzzle rating. Even if you have the new system toggled off it will still affect your normal rating whether that be in a positive or negative light.

As you can see from my view my puzzle shows both my rating (increase and decrease per puzzle) as well as my puzzle points, there is a way to show both your rating and your puzzle point, again this can be toggle using the setting found underneath the "Hint" button, but this button can be found in the top right corner if you are on mobile.

Why should I use this new system?

It is not required to use this new point system, it was just a new fun thing to promote people to encourage people to do more puzzle to improve their rating. But I use it as a competitive tool with my friends, we compete to see who can get the most puzzle points. So it is a fun little update that was made to promote "puzzling" and so far, it seems to be working. A lot of people I know have seemed to gain a random interest in Chess puzzles, and I have never seen these people ever play chess puzzles. Another cool thing I have noticed is with this new update and the increase in Chess "puzzling" has also increased peoples ratings. Speaking from experience after I got my puzzle points to 25,000 my rapid rating increased rapidly by 200 just over a weekend. Puzzles are great for your Chess since a lot of chess is just pattern recognition.

What is considered the "End" of this journey?

Although many people have completed the puzzles and reached the Legend Prestige, people have so far considered this "The end". But they are wrong. After doing some research and observing I have come to the conclusion that when people complete this Legend Prestige they get sent back to the Wood Prestige as if all their progress has just restarted. Although it may seem so, that is incorrect. They are sent to the SECOND TIER of the Wood Prestige. Here is how the prestige levels essentially go;

Wood Prestige

Tier 1

Stone Prestige

Tier 1

Bronze Prestige

Tier 1

Silver Prestige Tier 1
Crystal Prestige

Tier 1

Elite Prestige  Tier 1
Champion Prestige  Tier 1
Legend Prestige  Tier 1
Wood Prestige  Tier 2
Stone Prestige  Tier 2

So on and so forth, we still don't know how many tiers there are.

What should Chess.com do to make this new update even better?

In my opinion Chess.com should add a leader board for puzzle points. As Chess.com already has a leader board for all the ratings including the normal puzzle ratings, I think they should  add one for puzzle points as well to make it more fun and we can see other's high collection of points.

Overview;

- There is a new puzzle point system.

- This system is just like the players league system.

- Whether or not you have this setting you can still possibly gain or lose points from your normal rating.

- Once you finish the Legend Prestige of one tier you advance to the Wood Prestige in the next tier.
