Hello my chess friends. I have not posted in a week. I hope to play Carlos Torre Memorial next month, so, I have been training very hard in my free time. I’m reading (for second time in my life) “Understanding Chess, move by move” by John Nunn, one of my favorite chess books. Also preparing my openings, playing games, working with studies, analyzing the games I played in my last tournament… It’s a very good opportunity to get my 3rd IM norm, so, I want to go there as prepared as I can.

But let’s stop talking about me, now let’s talk about you . As you already know, tactics is a very important aspect of the game if you want to raise your level. In this post, I’m going to try to help you to improve, explaining these 5 puzzles, where you have to win using Pin tactical theme.

We have a Pin, when a piece shouldn’t move because there is a more valuable piece behind it. It can be absolute, when the piece behind is the king (it won’t be legal to move the pinned piece), or relative when the piece behind is any other, different than the king. Let’s see some examples. I encourage you to try to find the solutions for some minutes.

In this video you can find variations and explanations for 5 diagrams.

Also, it’s important you to know, that if you feel you need to improve some particular tactical idea or theme you can do it on Chess.com Tactics Trainer, in the unrated options you can select the one you would like to practice (like Pin).

If you liked this you can follow me clicking on the right side at the top of the post. I will be posting things like this often.

And if you think this is going to be helpful for your friends, share it with them.
