Cleveland Open Round 1- Chloe Wang v Stacia Pugh (Scandinavian Defense)
So I decided to play the Cleveland Open. After playing my first tournament, the Columbus Open (this is in Ohio, USA) and getting crushed and subsequently depressed (lol) I was hesitant to enter another tourney less than prepared, but then I snapped out of it and said.. well, why not?? I ended up having a wonderful time and gaining valuable experience. My final score was 2.5/5 which I am pretty content with. The time control was 100 minutes for the first 40 moves, 30 minutes sudden death after that, and 10 second delay throughout. I played in the U1500 section which had a $1,000 prize for first. I'm going to analyze and post videos on all 5 rounds I played. Always more to learn with chess!
In my first game of the tournament I faced a talented little girl named Chloe. I suspect she is about 8 years old? She found a nice line against my Scandi and we ended up in a position where she had a strong attack and I scramble to defend. Definitely a scary first round to endure! The full game is in the short video below.
