Intro to the Smith Morra Gambit Declined: Push Variation

Welcome to this Intro of the Smith-Morra Gambit Declined (Push Variation), a rather submissive approach in my opinion! But one worth looking at.

3...d3! looks like a strange move giving away a pawn, but black is set on avoiding the dangerous Smith-Morra Gambit Accepted.  It's a practical approach in blitz and for those who aren't familiar with the Morra.  White should play an early c4 which wastes a tempo but allows for harmonious development and a nice playable Moroczy Bind type position.

In this video we look at the first ten moves of the main line of this variation as well as the ideas behind them and typical plans that result!

Hope you learn something! I know I did!
