Standard #37: The Poison Rook (Smith-Morra Declined)
Here I present a game I played at the Mustard Seed Meltdown chess tournament in Solon, OH in April 2019. In this G30 USCF rated rapid game I reply to the Sicilian with the aggressive 2. d4!? entering into the Smith-Morra Gambit, but alas it was declined and I am quickly detoured into unfamiliar territory.
My opponent ends up with quite a bit of pressure placed upon a pinned and attacked piece so much so that he gifts me a rook! But could it be that this is an exchange is too much to accept? I mean... it's a rook!
