Fabby joins the party!

The biggest news of the past two weeks is the recent entry of Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana into the Millionaire Chess Open. Fabby, as he is affectionately called, is undoubtedly one of the world’s best players, rising to as high as 2851 on the live ratings list, making him the third highest rated player of all time behind only Magnus Carlsen and Garry Kasparov. At 22 years old, he is widely considered to be one of the main challengers to Carlsen's World Championship title, and his incredible streak of 7 wins in a row at last year’s Sinquefield Cup now stands as one of the most epic chess results of all time.

With Fabby joining the big dance, the tournament now boasts three of the top ten players on the planet, including World number 4 Hikaru Nakamura (2814), and World number 7 Wesley So (2779). Not only does this mean that the top three Americans are now playing in event, but if ratings stay true to form, the MCO will be the first Open tournament in history to boast two players rated over 2800. With a pack of other strong Grandmasters giving chase, including the Chinese powerhouses Wang Hao (2735) and Yu Yangyi (2723), this October will feature an event to remember!

Welcome Tania!

We are pleased to announce that Women’s GM Tania Sachdev will be joining the commentary team for MC2. Tania, who hails from Dehli, India, has had extensive broadcast experience at
such events as the 2013 World Championship between Magnus Carlsen and Vishwanathan Anand as well as the 2015 Gibraltar Open. She will join last year’s team of GM Robert Hess and International Master Lawrence Trent.
