Magnus Carlsen vs Ding Liren
Magnus Carlsen, #1 in the world, everyone's star player, a true champion. But wait, the unbeatable Magnus Carlsen has a challenger, a worthy opponent, Ding Liren! This genius of chess was born on October 24, 1992 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang in China. He reached the title of grandmaster at 17, he is currently 26 and is one of the strongest players in the world. Another feat of his is a 100 classical game streak of NO losses!!! This streak consisted of 29 wins and 71 draws. NO LOSSES AT ALL. This streak lasted a little bit more than a year, from August 2017, to November 2018. But... Ding's record was shattered as French GM Maxime-Vachier-Lagrave, or MVL defeated the undefeated Ding Liren.
FAST FACT: Ding Liren's 100-game streak may seem amazing but Sergey Tiviakov has a 110-game streak. Better luck next time Ding!
Magnus Carlsen, what can I say, he is my favorite player of ALL TIME. This 28 year old prodigy was born in Tønsberg, Norway on November 30, 1990. He reached GM in the year 2004, he was thirteen. He surpassed a rating of 2800 at the age of 18 and reached number 1 in the FIDE world rankings aged 19, becoming the youngest person ever to accomplish these feats. Magnus Carlsen became world champion in 2013 at the age of 23, he defeated Vishwanathan Anand and defended his title in the following year. Whats most amazing is, in 2014 he won the World Rapid Championship and the Blitz World Championships, that means he was the first person ever to hold all three titles!!! He defended his title again Sergey Karjakin in 2016 and Fabiano Caruana in 2018.
Fast Fact: Magnus carlsen's full name is actually Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen!!!
Now you're probably saying, get to THE POINT!!! Yes, I know, I know. So who is better, Magnus Carlsen or Ding Liren. Now, Magnus Carlsen and Ding Liren have tons of talent, they have the gift of chess. But, if they didn't practice chess, they probably wouldn't have gotten so far. So, what am I saying? To be good at chess you have to practice and have talent. But, this is just an opinion, if you don't have the gift of chess that's fine! If you love chess and practice everyday, even without the gift of chess, you'll get to be GM someday. So, I think that Magnus Carlsen is a little bit better than Ding Liren, but for the most part I think we will still have to wait and see if we want to know who truly is... the champion of chess.
