Process of thinking during a game

The "depth of the calculation" has two dimensions, X and Y :

• X = Candidates moves (wide of the calculation),
• Y = Depth of the calculation

The more the game is running, the more we calculate dephtly and the less we think positional.

Botvinnik: "We think positional when our opponent is thinking, we calculate when it is our turn to play."
