Morphy vs J. Schulten 1857
Here is another Guess-The-Next-Move type game I ran on chessgames dot com but analyze over here.
The year is 1857 - Morphy vs John William Schulten.
Some minor notes beforehand: I cannot for the life of me find a picture of John Schulten (at least not a definitive picture). Second item is the John Schulten actually has a chess move named for him, called the Schulten Defense which is:
1. e4, e5
2. Nf3, Nc6
3. Bc4, Bc5
4. b4, Bxb4
5. c3, Ba5
6. d4, exd4
7. O-O, b5
Now onto the game!
Par for this game is 25, my score was 27
The first 5 moves are a given, so we start my guessing at turn 6
6) I said d4 which was incorrect but given full credit. Actual was O - O
7) I got this correct with a guess of d4
8) Another correct guess cxd4
9) I said d5, which was incorrect but given full credit. Actual was Nc3
10) Again I said d5 and again incorrect, but no credit this time. Actual Bb5
11) Bad move on my part, I said Qb3. Actual was Be3
12) Again I blundered, I suggested Qxf3 which was really bad. Actual move was gxf3
13) I have d5 on the brain, no points (but I didn't lose points either!). Actual move was Kh1
14) No points for my suggested move of Bg5. Actual move was Rg1
15) Full credit for my move of Nd5. The actual move f4
16) A so-so move on my part, Nd5 (only 2 points). Paul's actual move was f5
17) Another bad move on my part, Bxf4. Actual Qf3
18) This I got correct: Bxf5
19) Again I got this correct: Bxe5
20) Another so-so move of h3 (2 points). Actual was Rg2
21) This I got correct: Qxc3
22) I got full credit for the move Qxg7. But the actual move was Rc1
John Schulten surrendered at this point
Enjoy!
