“Why You Keep Blundering”

“Why You Keep Blundering”

The One Question You Must Ask Before Every Move ♟️

Most blunders happen not because of bad calculation — but because one simple question wasn’t asked.

That question is:

“What does my opponent want?”

1. Chess Is a Two-Player Game

It sounds obvious, but many players only focus on their own plans.

Your opponent is always threatening something — even in quiet positions.

2. Spotting Threats Prevents Blunders

Before every move, quickly check:

  • Checks

  • Captures

  • Attacks on loose pieces

This alone can save you many games.

3. Don’t Ignore Silent Moves

Not every threat is immediate.
Sometimes your opponent is improving a piece or setting a trap.

Ask:

“What changes if I do nothing?”

4. Good Defense Creates Counterplay

When you see the threat early, you can:

  • Defend calmly

  • Trade pieces

  • Turn defense into attack

Strong players defend before they attack.

5. Make It a Habit

You don’t need deep calculation every move.
Just pause for 2 seconds and ask the question.

That habit separates blunders from solid play.

Final Thought

Chess improvement isn’t about brilliance — it’s about awareness.

Ask the right question, and the right moves follow.
