Continued Discussion on the Catalan---My Favorite Opening

I wanted to continue my discussion from yesterday about my favorite opening the Catalan. It starts with a queens gambit and quickly morphs in to a kingside fianchetto. In the sequence of moves that I show on the board below white has several advantages after the first 10 traditional moves. First, white has their queen already activated where black does not. Second, whites bishop on the C file has an escape hatch where it can be activated and blacks C file bishop is trapped. Third, white only has one piece to move off the back rank to connect their rooks, and black still has two pieces to move to connect their rooks. Fourth, white has a strong position with their kingside fianchetto already set up where blacks bishop on the D file is awkwardly placed. Due to these four major advantages that white has it should be fairly easy to defeat black most of the time. The only problem I have now is that I cant get the move sequence worked out properly in the middle game to put me in a strong end game position.

I like to write about a lot of different things. Sometimes it's about chess, and sometimes its about other things. If you like what my blog is about then leave a comment.
