Reactions on Blogs!
I’ve always been curious about one simple thing:
When someone clicks on a blog, do they really read it?
It’s a question that has crossed my mind more than once (not in frustration, but in reflection). Especially when I see numbers like +12.000 views on a single blog post, which, by the way, happened in June, setting the global record for that month on the platform.
Of course, I’m proud of that... Who wouldn’t be?
But the deeper question remains: how do we truly measure connection?
I’m sure other talented and recognized bloggers on this platform (some with the Official "Top Blogger" title), might wonder the same. After investing hours crafting a post, choosing the right words, editing images, organizing ideas... It’s natural to wonder:
Did people feel something? Did they smile? Get surprised? Feel inspired? 🤔
Views and Comments: Important, but...
Currently, we have 2 main signals: views and comments.
🔇 They’re valuable. But they can also be... Silent.
💬 A comment is amazing, of course, but not everyone has the time, courage, or language fluency to write one.
👁️ And views? Well... A number doesn’t always reflect engagement. One person might read every word, another might just scroll by.
What if we had reactions?
A simple ❤️, 😮, 😢, or even 😡 could say so much.
What if it looked like this? This is a visual mock-up of how the blog section could display user reactions, even before clicking the post.
Imagine scrolling through the blog feed and instantly seeing how others responded.
It’s a small detail… But, it could make a big difference.
Reactions in notifications? Another thought: what if users received fun, simple notifications when someone reacted to their blog? Just like club notes or messages.
Whether it's a “❤️” from a reader or a “😢” from a GM, these moments build connection, and motivate writers to keep going.
Just like we see on other platforms, reactions allow a silent reader to leave a meaningful response, without needing to type a single word.
It could be:
A quiet thank you.
A nod of agreement.
A little emotional spark.
Wouldn’t that deepen the connection between writer and reader?
And for authors, both rising and experienced, it would be a helpful signal:
“People felt something when they read this.”
Just an idea... I’m not suggesting a revolution. Just planting a seed. 🌱
Maybe one day, readers on Chess.com will be able to react instantly to blogs they love.
A small gesture. A big impact.
For now, I’ll keep writing with heart, and trusting that, somewhere behind the views, someone out there is truly reading.
