Hey guys! Today, I will be telling everyone about the French Defense!

The French Defense occurs when White moves e4 and Black moves e6. These moves are commonly followed by d4 and d5. White sets up a pawn centre. Black immediately challenges by attacking the pawn on e4. The same position can be reached by transposition from a Queen's Pawn Game after 1.d4 e6 2.e4 d5 or the declining Blackmar-Diemer Gambit after 1.d4 d5 2.e4 e6. White can save the pawn on e4 with the moves of 3.Nc3 or 3.Nd2 exchanging it with 3.exd5 or advancing it with 3.e5, each of which leads to different types of positions.
