Openings part 1 - Scandinavian defense

Scandinavian defense is one of the oldest openings. its history starts even in the 15th century, but it was named and analyzed by the Collijn brothers. It starts from these moves.

With this move, black attacks the e4 pawn and opens the c8 bishop.

For white the best move is take d5 pawn

Now black has two possible moves:

The first one (and my favorite one) is 2... Nf6. Now white usually plays 3.c4 to defend their pawn

Now black has to sacrifice one of their pawns

This is the first continuation known as the Scandinavian gambit.

The second continuation is an Icelandic gambit.

Instead of 2...Nf6 Black often plays 2...Qxd5

Now the most popular option for white is 3. Nc3 and black has some moves(i will show all contnuations)
