platinumMagnus Carlsen has just won the World Cup,‼️ which means that at a mere thirty-two years of age, he has finally placed first in every major tournament out there, in addition to being a five-time world champion and having the highest rating for over a decade. And with such a dominating performance in the chess world, one can't help but wonder: is the Norwegian phenom the greatest player of all time, or is there someone who has come before him who holds that coveted spot? Certainly there have been those before him who have also held such a supremacy in the world of the sixty-four squares, but the difference between them and the current world number one is that he is where he is in spite of the "computer generation" where learning is accelerated and thus the level of play of his competitors is much higher. Therefore, in my opinion, Carlsen can be considered the best in history, because blitzhe is at the top in an age where others also stand tall in terms of chess strength.

Specifically, Magnus towers above the rest in an era where there are many who have reached a 2750 or even 2800 level. Garry Kasparov held a similar reign in the chess world, but his rivals, excluding Anatoly Karpov, were significantly lower rated. And Bobby Fischer stood a whopping hundred points over his vanquished opponent from the World Championship, Boris Spassky. The further you go back, the greater this gap is, to the point where Paul Morphy could even give his closest adversaries odds. It's clear that in order to be ahead of the top players nowadays, you have to have an understanding of chess that surpasses any such understanding possessed by previous generations, and even if it's not clear to the untrained eye that Carlsen's play is vastly superior to his great predecessors, one can deduce that there must in fact be a huge difference in level between the Norwegian superstar and the best that have come before him. 2850 means something completely different from what it meant decades ago, and the wunderkind's dominant performance only proves his superiority to the champions of the past.

So, regardless of how unsure you may be as to Magnus Carlsen's true strength, you can't deny that he is in fact the greatest of all time due to the age in which he reigns supreme. Chess in general has seen a surge in the level of play, and to consistently tower over his nearest rivals shows an extreme fortitude in terms of just how good the Norwegian is. And one can only surmise as to how long Carlsen will keep up his dominant performance in the chess world. During the World Cup, Magnus did mention that he found classical chess "stressful and boring," and he has relinquished his official world champion title, but I think he will continue to play longer time controls and continue to show his skill that he has been exhibiting for a decade. But even if he decides to only play faster chess, that doesn't mean that we can't witness a king at work still. Whatever the number one decides to play, he will indeed show why he is the best, not just in this age but also in history.‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
