KLA Chess Club (Keiller Leadership Academy), is a Title I, K-8 Charter School located in southeast San Diego. Chess class has been implemented as an everyday, in school class for middle school students.

For more information about our school, visit or about the KLA Chess Club,

The following lesson is taken from the Dutch KNSB training series by Rob Brunia and Cor van Wijgerden

Goals for this lesson:

*Cooperation of the pieces

*Learning to attack effectively

Students, set-up your boards along with the diagrams below and follow along.

However, sometimes a double attack would not be profitable. In the below diagram, white would not be advised to attack with the rook.
Double Attacks can happen along the same rank or file...
Double attacks can also happen on diagonals.
Summary: A double attack on a protected piece is only profitable when the piece being attacked is worth more than the attacking piece.
