Hey guys, welcome to the history of Chess.com. That's right! Chess.com which is the website your reading on right now has a very interesting history, so without a further ado let us dive in!

The Beginning:

Chess.com was created in 2005 by @Erik and Jay. Now every organisation needs a founder, the founders of chess.com are Jay and Erik they both loved playing chess, now at the time there were several websites for playing chess but none of them felt right they both dreamed of a people playing chess in their homes on a safe friendly environment, where people could share their games and learn from each other, and that of course is the Chess.com we know it today! So, we now know the founders are Erik and Jay, the roots of chess.com started on the September of 2006 now they were making progress, they had also came across a polish person called Piotr and they started to make some progress but just not fast enough. Erik was still at school, Jay had a job in the day, so he was working nights, and Piotr was also working nights. Piotr soon committed to more hours and Jay quit his job to work more on chess.com, and in early May of 2007 they released a private-invite only site to test for bugs and stuff. They also started looking around to see who would be interested in being an active participant in the site. That is how they found the amazing BillWall and the ever-present and helpful SonOfPearl, along with other members. At the end of May they opened the first ever version of Chess.com out into the world, however it still lacked a lot of features that the modern Chess.com has, like playing against other players. A lot of helpful members, who contributed to the great content you read. Then things started moving smoothly and...suddenly they were featured on TechCrunch and now even more people started to join Chess.com and then, they were able to get member vs member play! In the month that followed hundreds of people joined everyday and in the following month they were adding new features, and updates, and before you know it we reach, today!

Part 2 Logo designs:

The reasons why the founders of chess.com chose the pawn as the symbol is basically because we're not all kings and queens yet it's a symbol that this is a place for everyone no matter how good you are at chess. Then came the logo here are some concepts of the early designs.

The @erik convinced a talented friend to draw some concepts.

And there's more drawings but i'm just to lazy to put them all down, besides you get the idea.

and then they narrowed it down to something like this.

But @erik didn't like the colours or the heavy gradients.

And then this is what almost became their logo,

But they thought it was a little to complex, so they turned it into what we now know is the logo.

I hope you, the reader enjoyed my newest and latest blog! See you next time.
