How To Beat Nelson The Chess Bot (1300)

Numerous players in chess.com forums and in their discord have been very frustrated by Nelson´s aggressive playing style. For those who do not know he is a chess.com bot with a rating of 1300. So I thought why not create an article and a video on how to beat him so you do not have to struggle playing him anymore!

Nelson is particularly well known for bringing out his queen early in the game. It is highly relevant at lower levels to know how to punish this as numerous beginners know that the queen is the best piece. As a consequence, they move it all the time.

Very often when a queen is prematurely developed in the opening, the other side will be able to harass the queen and gain numerous temps as a consequence. This is in fact the reason that at higher levels one rarely develops their queen very early in the opening. This is well known information, and the idea to bring out minor pieces before the queen is something that is already talked about in the book “My System” by Aaron Nimzowitsch written in 1925.
