Winning on Time
This is a topic that has popped up a lot more recently... For those who don't know, "flagging" is the idea of winning on time in Chess... And there's somehow toxicity embedded in this nowadays and I wanna talk about it.
Flagging is considered unethical. Here's the picture. You are up by 5 seconds but are down but 3-5 points. And the opponent is down by 4 seconds and has a positional and material advantage. So simply, you are winning by time and you've removed the right moves. And you won. But the opponent trash talks and when you do share the game with others, they explain how you still lost... But you gained points? And lost? Well, that doesn't make any sense.
I consistently play bullet with NO INCREMENT and flagging is a common part of it. But it's considered that that's ethically wrong and you should resign. But in that case, what is the point of the time?
In my opinion, winning on time should be considered a skill and it is.
If the opponent wants to talk crap about how he/she(insert the pronoun) also could have won on time but playing random moves, then you can just ask him why he/she(again, choose the pronoun) didn't do it. The answer is because he/she(you get the idea) CAN'T.
But this is the funny part. They(opponents) want you(winning on time) to resign or give up the game when the opponent is winning on material but not on time for no apparent reason. Just because they have more pieces doesn't mean they should win. That's like saying if you blunder a piece, then you should resign because you just gave away your knight(a realistic example). No. If you still manage to win, then you won. There is no question about that, be it on time or checkmate. And thinking that time isn't a factor in Chess doesn't make sense.
And yes, to summarize everything, this is just me ranting about why Bullet with no increment requires actual skill. It's not just moving random pieces hoping that you will win on time(and if you do, then good job).
There's nothing unethical about winning on time and don't try others psychologically to change you to think you should resign when there's a situation like mentioned above. You deserved to win if you won(and yes, I know that statement makes little to no practical sense but you know what I mean).
Good luck with your next games!
