Chess... is one of the oldest and most popular games

in the world. Tons of people play it, but the question that a lot of people ask themselves is,

                                                                      how did chess get here?

The most commonly held belief is that chess originated from India. Then, it was called Chaturanga. Although, some historians believe that chess originated from China, then to India, then, the game had spread to Persia. Later it spread to southern Eroupe. The moves of the pieces changed in the fifteenth century.

It was created in the 6th century AD. Wilhelm Steinitz is considered "the father of chess". He was the first world champion.

Have you ever wondered how chess got its name? Chess is a word that originated form  Persia, "shah" (king). Shah kind of sounds like chess, right?

Who is the best chess player in the world? Magnus Carlsen is the ruler of chess. (At least people call him that). He is a grand master. Though, he is the best chess player in the world today. A lot of books chess writers write give their opinion of who the best chess players in history are. But according to the Elo system, (a system created by Arpad Elo to rate chess players) Magnus Carlsen  also, is the best chess player ever. with a rate of 2882 in 2014. That was the best rate in the history of the world.

Who made the best chess openings? A very common opening when you play chess is when you make the move e4. Then, black usually does the same move, e5. White would then move Nf3. Black would then try to defend his pawn by moving Nc6, because white's knight is attacking black's pawn. White would forget about black's pawn and move Bb5. Now, white can castle.

This is a standard Ruy Lopez position.

A good move  to do after this Ruy Lopez position is for white to castle. (The next chess game that I show will be two random moves for black) After white castles, white should move h3, opening a door if a queen or a rook puts the king in check by moving a rook or a queen to the 1 rank.
