Its the fastest way to checkmate your opponent in just 2 moves. Its a blunder which allows opponent to win easiest way. There is no verified record of a Grandmaster falling for this trap in a serious rated game. It mostly occurs during bullet games by average or newbie chess players.

Sandbagging
Suppose, today you get a game request from a much lower Elo player than yours. You accepted it and become overconfident to win the game. After few moves you discovered the opponent knows the opening well. In midgame you find out he identifies all the traps you want to put him in. At the endgame you realized the position is losing for you and no option left except resigning. After the game you received a message "April Fool, Its me your chess coach".
Well its fun for today but doing this purposefully is an offence. Basically, when a higher Elo player lost against a lower Elo its disappointing for the former one. Its known as Sandbagging or rating manipulation i.e. hiding your original rating purposefully to gain advantage from somewhere. There are few tournaments where the rating has a limit ( <1199 or < 1999) containing rewards for winners. People willingly loses multiple games and lessen their original rating to enter such tournaments and easily wins it by such trick. you can report them on this website which causes their account ban.

If you zoomed the picture you could find the answer. First of all its unrated game and clearly the arena is educational purpose which doesn't satisfy Sandbagging at all. Many chess streamers does the same to educate players.

He's none other than Anish Giri, 5 times Dutch Champion. But why he is taking the piece? Is he trying to fool the opponent?
Maybe... But such activity by a Grandmaster is unexpected. you may say its not a big deal but, its not the only time he did this.
lets see another incident-
During a Tata Steel Chess Tournament while arranging pieces World Champion Gukesh was searching for a pawn which was missing. Before this Giri was spotted putting a chess piece in his pocket. Though most sources confirmed the missing piece of Gukesh's game was an accident still the blame went on Anish. He also clarified that taking a piece for fidgeting is not against the rules and returns the pieces every time at the end.
But can anyone fool the opponent during game? or the camera?
Nearly impossible, but not for Anish. In a rapid game at the FIDE World Team Championship against IM Ansat Aldiyar, Giri placed fingers covering the knight such way , made believe that he touched it. instantly he took his bishop and moved different square. Aldiyar got confused and called the arbiter as its illegal to touch different pieces on one move. But after checking video footage the arbiter responded "No touch".
Check this out and decide the title is suitable for him or not.
My club incident
On 19th Feb, 2026 I was awake at 2 am IST and uploading puzzle in my club forum. I opened my club just one month ago and there were 350 around members. I made many admins there whoever said they want to actively help in growing this, specially created for Variant players. Its too late as I'm not a night owl, closed the window , about to sleep. After 10 minutes, I opened chess.com again and discovered the members are decreased by 30. Its 320 then. I thought maybe some bug issue on this website and refreshed the page but wow... Its 314. It felt like someone is saying "Surprise Owner".
I became super active at the moment and ignoring sleep visited the club audit log. There I found many statements like this " ### kicked member ***". I understood my fault of making multiple admins without judging them. By my club members other club owner's support we successfully able to ban that account in next few days.
I must mention we're doing great in our Variant Lovers club and reached the milestone of 1k members recently, unless some other admin does such prank.
So, if you're a club owner yourself, be aware of getting fooled by your admins such way. Its not fun, its pain. Make sure the trustworthy persons are given powerful posts otherwise your condition will be like this in future -

I'm very sure 99% boys need no explanation after seeing the title. Rest 1% are serious chess players so ignore them. Let me explain to the girls. If you're an above average player or have a club or having chess.com membership, you must have encountered with such pretty profiles. Let me share my friend's experience for your better understanding.
My friend Arghya is a 1500 rated player in chess.com and try to improve his game daily. One evening while playing bullet match he got a random but special friend request. Why special?? The profile contains a pretty girl's pic, named Angel. Also she messaged first " OMG you're a great player having so good rating.. Can you teach me please?". My friend didn't know where it leads to and started chatting.
Few days he devoted his time teaching chess to his Angel and became very good friends. After someday Angel mentioned she's too bad at chess and only a membership can help her maybe platinum for 1 month. Arghya said that she needs Diamond for 1 year at least. Angel replied she doesn't have much money .So the kind, 1500 rated chess teacher instantly gifted her. Next day he found the profile of Angel is missing from his friend list instead a new account Devil has entered having an attitude pic. He silently started playing bullet matches again. After few matches, transformed into 1200 rated student.
Hope you guys understand what some people do with making such ID s here and fooling people every single day.

Conclusion
"Fool" means one who is deficient in judgement or who acts unwisely. But the similar sound "Phool" in Bengali/Hindi language refers to flowers. Its not good to make fun always on something or someone. Laughing is healthy but laughing at someone can affect his/her mental health.
