(Note: This is not a complete endgame explanation blog but i will highlight 2 main points)

Hello guys,

Today i will show you how to improve your endgame skills. But WHY? is the main question, most beginners start practicing chess from the openings, that is a slight mistake, I'm not saying that you should not start from opening, But I rather recommend you start your chess preparation from the endgames. Reading this blog will not make you an endgame god like Magnus carlsen, but it will improve your endgame skills, if you want to improve your endgame skills a lot, then I recommend you to check out the book called Silman's Complete Endgame Course or GM Igor Smirnov's course called: An Endgame Expert. By the way, a  useful thing to know for endgames is that they revolve around pawns and pawn structures, if you don't have a good pawn structure then the endgame is losing ( that is how grandmasters analyze endgames i think so ).

The Two Main Ideas:

1. Push your passed pawns: if you have a passed pawn, push it forward and tie your opponent's pieces to guard the promotion square, so you can improve your position gradually and win the game.

But what if you don't have a passed pawn? Here comes the second idea:

2. Attack opponent's weak pawns: If you don't have passed pawns and have no way in making passed pawns, then you should focus on attacking opponent's weak pawns. It is useful to know that you may fix a weakness before attacking it and if you are a defending side in an endgame, then try to trade your opponents pawns for your pawns, because that will bring you 1 step close to a draw. If you are an attacking side then try to avoid pawn exchanges and try to 'win' your opponent's weak pawns for nothing.

I hope you found this helpful today and if you have any questions based on endgames then please ask them below.
