Unknown Unknowns

"There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."

This is an important idea!  Something that most of our scientific and Medical community generally disregard.  Take the concept of dark matter and dark energy for example:

What you have to understand is that these ideas are a name that astronomers and cosmologists use to personify their unknown unknowns.  In other words in order to  justify their formulas to locally observed rules they are variables that are added for all of this to work out.  Don't be fooled!  Both dark energy and dark matter are unknown unknowns.  While many scientists speculate and many of their theories may lead to further understanding to the nature of the universe, it is doubtful that any one theory will completely encompass every other unknown unknow.

My philosophy toward game strategy embraces this concept.  I know that my calculation skills are limited.  Anything beyond my ability is an unknown unknown.  I seek methodology for systems that allow movement of choices beyond calculation alone.
