The Very First Outpost Fisher Tournament (Chess960/Freestyle chess)

Register - it is early bird ends tomorrow - only € 1 ! Play and have fun at Chess.com

What is Fisher Chess (Chess960)?

Fisher Chess is a chess variant where players start with random initial piece placements, introducing unpredictability and strategic challenges. It's named after chess champion Bobby Fischer, who proposed the idea. Outpost Chess organizes one, take a look at the participant list HERE.

Why is Fisher Chess More Interesting than Regular Chess Nowadays?

If you're not a big fan of learning and studying chess openings deeply into the midgame or endgame, Fisher Chess is the perfect fit for you. You get to engage your brain from move 1! If you prefer more strategy, tactics, and endgames over memorizing openings (which can be exhausting), then this is the place for you. Reserve your spot now. The early bird entry fee is only €1.

Anti-cheating Measures

When it comes to unknown positions, it's even more difficult to cheat. Engines are much faster when they encounter familiar positions and openings they have stored in their "memory". We aim to further confuse cheaters by playing in unfamiliar positions. Additionally, we play with a time control of 2+1, leaving no time for cheating. If cheating is detected, the player will be excluded from the competition, and this will be publicized.

Fun facts about Fisher Chess

One cool aspect of Fisher Random Chess is that it levels the playing field for both beginners and experienced players. Since the starting positions are randomized, players can't rely on memorized opening sequences, making every game a fresh challenge. This can lead to some hilarious and unexpected moments, as players must adapt to unconventional starting positions on the fly.

Another funny aspect is that even the most seasoned chess players can find themselves in unfamiliar territory right from the start. It's like being thrown into the deep end of the chess pool and seeing who can swim the fastest!

Additionally, since Fisher Random Chess often leads to unique and unorthodox positions, it encourages creativity and unconventional thinking. Players may discover new strategies and tactics that they wouldn't have encountered in traditional chess, leading to some truly innovative gameplay.

Overall, Fisher Random Chess adds an element of excitement, surprise, and laughter to the game, making it a refreshing and enjoyable experience for players of all skill levels.

Fisher Chess is also commonly known as Chess960 and Freestyle chess. How do you call it?! ;)

Hope to see you at our Outpost Fisher Battle on 24th of March at 6 pm CET!
