Pirc Defense

In the Pirc Defense, Black does not immediately fight for the center.
Instead, Black allows White to build up a strong pawn center (with pawns on e4 and d4) and plans to counterattack it later.
By fianchettoing the dark-squared bishop with g6 and Bg7, Black places heavy pressure on the center from a distance.
Typical middlegame themes include attacking the d4 pawn, undermining the center with moves like c5 or e5, and launching kingside counterplay. -
Key concepts: Hypermodern style, flexible counterattack, patience before striking.
