If your a King's Gambit aficionado like me, you have probably come across the Cunningham Defense of the King's Gambit Accepted. It arises after

Black's intentions are clear, he wants to play Bh4+. According to the Lichess database, this is the fourth most popular move and has a 49% (!) win rate for Black, and only a 48% win rate for White.

The problem that most players playing White will run into is on what to play on their 4th move. A common 'trap' that the King's Gambit player might run into is

White also doesn't have any way to prevent the check on h4:

The only promising options for White is either 4.Bc4 or 4.Nc3. I'm going to recommend 4.Bc4, making room for the king on f1. If Black now tries to play 4...Bh4+, my recommendation is the Bertin Gambit.

The Bertin Gambit

The point of this gambit is that after the Black snatches the pawn on g3, White castles! This gambit is only to be recommended to players who prioritize development over a couple of pawns and are alright with their king being on h1!
