🏆 How I Won My First Gold Medal on Chess.com – And How You Can Too!
Have you ever seen those shiny medals on someone’s Chess.com profile and thought,
"How do I get one of those?"
I used to wonder the same—until I played in a user-created tournament, gave it my all, and walked away with my first-ever gold medal.

🔍 What Kind of Tournaments Award Medals?
Not all tournaments give medals. To earn one, you need to play in a tournament that meets these criteria:
✅ Must be created through the official system: https://www.chess.com/tournaments
✅ Must have at least 4 players
✅ Must be in a supported format: Round Robin or Knockout
✅ You must complete all your games
❌ No medals are given for Live Arena or Club Arena events.
✅ How to Earn a Medal: Tips from My Experience
Here’s what helped me reach the top—and can help you too:
1. Finish all your games
Even strong players miss out on medals because they withdraw or timeout. Stay committed, and you’re already ahead of many.
2. Focus one game at a time
In a 10-minute game, one moment of distraction can cost you everything. Give each round your full attention.
3. Choose tournaments that match your level
Don’t jump into 2000+ rated events if you’re 1400. There are many tournaments with rating limits—use them to your advantage.
4. Check the format and time controls
Make sure you can commit to the pace—especially in Daily tournaments, where each move can
take days!
