Chess vs Shogi

Hey all, I have a crucial question :

Would you rather playing shogi or chess ?

♟ or 🀄 ?

Let's start with introducing of 2 parts, one about chess and one about shogi :

Shogi :

Shogi is a japanese game went from chess. It is played on a 9x9 board. This game appeared around 710 to 794 after J.C.

Chess :

Chess is an indian game. It is played on a 8x8 board. This game appeared in the VIe century after J.C.

Ok, you've learned this. Now wich game will you pick ?

Clearly, I'd never heard anything about shogi until this year (I am playing this on lishogi.org) but I stared chess when I was 6 or 7. I think that shogi is more difficult than chess (maybe because I am not japanese 😅) because of signs in each piece. I had some ideas like for the king, it's the katakana e (the sign is exactly like e in katakana, katakana is a system of writing in japanese) etc. Chess is more simple with just normal pieces without any signs. The promotion in shogi is a bit stranger than chess, like in shogi, when you promote a piece, this is just upgrading the piece, you have not a choice like chess when you promote a pawn you can choose a queen or a knight, bishop etc. for example in shogi when you want to promote a piece, you can't choose gold general or silver general etc.

In shogi when you capture a piece you can use it to be a new piece in your game !

In chess this is impossible !

So, 1% of human on the Earth are playing shogi and 10% on the Earth are playing chess (50 millions for shogi and 800 millions for chess).
FINALLY, after playing a few times those 2 games, I DON'T HAVE ANY PREFERENCES ! You can say wich game do you prefer in the chat 👇.

Have a beautiful day !
