The New Prices and Memberships
Yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Sup, I'm back
Now if you checked the memberships you might have noticed that they've changed a little, now this blog isn't only going to cover chess.com plans, but also Chessable, and Aimchess's plans.
An Important disclaimer before we begin is that I'm ONLY going to be looking at yearly plans.
Chess.com's Plans
You might have noticed that they added one and took one away. The one that they took away was platinum and the one they added was friends and family.
In this photo you will see that they removed platinum and added a new one called friends and family
So basically what they did was give remove platinum which had an extra, which was unlimited game review, but let's be honest, we all found coach explanations better than just the game review itself.
Diamond didn't change much besides the fact that they moved it too the middle, but what's new is that they added a new plan called friends and family, as I mentioned before, now let's take a look at it, it has everything for the price of $20.84/mo and includes up to 4 people. I find this a amazing deal as 2 diamond memberships would be around $25.
What I wish chess.com had was another plan which had game review, coach explanations, lessons and puzzles, I would say that those that I listed would be more of the mandatory ones. Of course I would still keep to my word that Gold is of best value because each of the features if divided evenly is around $1.30, if you divide the diamond plan would be around $1.79 per feature, which could be because of the electricity costs to run the chess analysis, but let's be honest there's no way that electricity is around an extra $3. As I've highlighted if the features were around $1.30 then it would only be around $9-$10, I think a more fair way would be $10 per month, which in my opinion would be sufficient money for chess.com and would save you $24 dollars per month.
Gold | Diamond | Friends and Family | |
Original Pricing (per yr) | $60 | $144 | $250.08 |
My pricing (per yr) | $60 | $120 | $240 |
As you can see I agree with gold pricing as I think that $1.30 is a fair price, but as you can also see changing the price for all features too $1.50 can reduce the price in diamond by $24 and in F&F $10 decrease. It's also important to note that only the premium memberships also have time out protection for daily games, this is a HUGE unfair advantage to those that play daily and don't have premium, and I see this as a marketing scheme to get people to buy premium, which I don't like.
I would also like to highlight an issue for their premium plans, which is currency, for some parts of the world it's harder to buy a membership, as chess.com only supports USD, which is a problem. For the other countries which have a currency that's highly inflated, so I would call on chess.com to include more currency's.
AimChess:
Aimchess plans have stayed the same for now
You will see that in this image Our eternal love & gratitude both have yes's but the premium yes is capitalised, lol.
There's nothing really to comment on Aimchess plans besides that in premium it's $1 per feature if you divide, which is a fair deal in my opinion. However I would like that Aimchess would give more access to drills and such.
Chessable:
It's important to note that I don't have as much experience with Chessable as Chess.com or Aimchess
As you can see here Chessable Pro comes with quite a bit of extra features
One word Wow
I will say that, there's basically nothing to say here as it gives solid bunch of features for a good price, however as I've said, I don't have much experience, so if you have anything then you can comment and say your own opinion.
Conclusion:
After this analysis of their plans I can say very well that Chessable, and Aimchess are priced pretty fair, though Chess.com needs to work on their pricing HOWEVER, the fact that Chess.com owns both Aimchess and Chessable along with many other businesses because they bought the Play Magnus Group would mean that they're making significant more revenue than before which means in theory that they should be able to lower the prices further if they already have this much money. The only problem that remains is....That they're not willing too.
