The Life of a Nerd
Hello to all people. I am making this to shade a light on the nerd community and small "outsider" communities alike. As a nerd myself, I know that people who are in these communities face daily challenges from the larger part of the population. So I'm making this to tell you what these daily battles, one blog at a time.
So you may have seen nerds in your classroom; the ones who get everything right, the ones who understand the assignment better than you could ever. Maybe you've seen a nerd at work; your coworker who knows the systems, or that one coworker who can get the printer fixed when no one else could. One thing you got to understand: Nerds are not always out loud like "Look at me, i'm smart!" Some nerds are more quiet and keep to themselves, like the person in the corner who's always stuck in a book, or the coworker no one knows by they're personality, only they're existence. And sometimes because of society, us nerds get pushed out of being a nerd, stop trying to stand out because fitting in is easier. It's the same issue with racial discrimination: people don't like the abnormal, so they push it out.
So now you know where you can find nerds, you must understand out daily challenges. First of all: a large populous of the nerds are people with stuff like Autism or ADHD. I myself have symptoms of both ADHD and Autism, and a professional has said I may have ASD. These "disorders" are sometimes what get us framed as stupid, or not normal. You see, that's one of the many daily battles: medical disorders get us placed elsewhere. Another issue is that we are often used as tools. People think, "they know stuff, why not abuse that?" and I say: That's fine, but we have a God givin' right to say no. If we say no, do NOT push us. Just leave us alone. You want to understand something? These daily battles can force nerds into depression. I've had nerd friends who were in depression and I was never sure if they would be there the next day. Each day is a miracle, and you should treat it that way. Then, you got the issue that we are constantly bored. The system hates use because we excel in knowledge, but most of us never end up getting recognized. Most nerds don't even make it to gifted classes, because of how the system works. I get bored in math, I say "I'll do it later" and that later becomes never because of how easy it is. The bullying: in multiple locations, school, home, work, wherever who can find people who ain't nerds, nerds will be bullied. It's practically natural.
So now you know some of our daily struggles, treat us like a normal human. Or, Jesus Christ, offer to be friends. We always want people to be with that won't treat us like a tool or a decease. So if you have a classmate, coworker, brother, sister, son, daughter, etc, who is a nerd, help them out. And I want you to understand: Nerds are the kind of people who change things; make history; design the next big thing.
And I want you to understand something: Us nerds can also look stupid. Albert Einstein: Got kicked out of class by his teacher and the teacher said he was "too stupid to learn." Thomas Edison: If I remember my facts correctly, at some point got all Fs on his assignments. These 2 famous people both were labeled as stupid by the system and look how they turned out. They're are many other examples in history. This is because school was designed during the industrial revolution, when all they needed was people who could listen and do task so they could work in factories. They never really changed it after that.
Well, that's all folks. Go and take the knowledge and use it. Or don't. I'm guessing if you don't, you don't even care. Goodbye and good luck.
