In Pakistan, chess has become an increasingly popular pastime and the country has produced a number of talented players who have made a name for themselves on the international stage. In this blog, I'll take a closer look at some of the top Pakistani chess players. Here we go........

1. Niaz Murshed

Niaz Murshed is considered by many to be the best chess player in the history of Pakistan. He was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1963, but he moved to Karachi, Pakistan, when he was just five years old. He learned to play chess at the age of six, and by the time he was a teenager, he was already considered a top player. In 1987, he became the first chess player from the Indian subcontinent to be awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE( The International Chess Federation).

2. Mahmood Lodhi

Mahmood Lodhi is another Pakistani chess player who has achieved great success on the international stage. He was born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1972, and he learned to play chess at the age of eight. He has won the Pakistan National Chess Championship(NCC) and he has represented Pakistan in many international competitions, including the Chess Olympiad. He was awarded the title of International Master in 1995 and he has continued to be a strong and consistent player throughout his career.

3. Anwar Ali

He was born in Quetta, Pakistan, in 1974, and he learned to play chess at the age of 13. He has represented Pakistan in numerous international competitions, including the Chess Olympiad, and he has won many tournaments in Pakistan and abroad. He was awarded the title of International Master in 2002, and he has continued to be a top player in Pakistan.

4. Shamsuddin Lodhi
Shamsuddin Lodhi is a Pakistani chess player who has been playing competitively for over two decades. He was born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1970, and he learned to play chess at the age of 12. He has won the Pakistan National Chess Championship five times, including the Chess Olympiad. He was awarded the title of International Master in 1995.

5. Maryam Tariq
Maryam Tariq is a female Pakistani chess player who has been making waves in the chess world in recent years. She was born in Karachi, Pakistan. She learned to play chess at the age of six. She has represented Pakistan in many international competitions, including the Asian Youth Chess Championship and the Chess Olympiad. She was awarded the title of Woman International Master in 2018, and she has become a role model for young girls in Pakistan who are interested in playing chess.
