If you had to look at a guy who was the longest reigning chess champion, his name would be Emanuel Lasker. Lasker lost a few games here and there, but his trend correlation was usually towards the winning side. Even at 66 years old, he was still crushing opponents and young counter parts.

One of his more popular games, was his game featuring the dutch variation in which he played Johann Hermann Bauer. The double bishop sacrifice was also notorious. Bauer was a brilliant chess master who died tragically of tuberculosis at the age of 29.
