Open Source and Chess Complete Each Other
Open Source tools, specifically related to chess engines, in-game stats counters, and even chess variants are complementary to spreading Chess in this modern era of time. Not only do they allow for tech to be built quicker, they allow for chess engines to be more transparent and for transparency for the community in general. Now I'm obviously not advocating all chess related software is open source, that can be disastrous as well. However, I think with moderation, the big boom of open source tools and the whole open source movement surrounding chess can be quite a good thing.
