OPENING, MIDDLEGAME AND ENDGAME OF CHESS AND BOXING.

OPENING:

CHESS AND BOXING ARE SIMILAR IN MANY WAYS. IN CHESS ANY DECENT PLAYER KNOWS THE IMPORTANCE OF ESTABLISHING AN OPENING MOVE, CONTROL THE CENTER, IN BOXING WE CALL THIS BEING FIRST, CONTROL CENTER RING.

BE THE FIRST TO THROW A PUNCH, THIS CAN SET THE PACE OF THE FIGHT AND SET YOUR OPPONENT OFF BALANCE EARLY AND PUT HIM ON THE DEFENSIVE SOONER THEN HE MAY LIKE, UNLESS HE'S A GREAT COUNTER-PUNCHER, WHICH IS RARE.

BE THE FIRST TO WIN THE FIRST ROUND, LET HIM PLAY CATCH UP ON THE SCORE CARDS. IF YOU GET AN EARLY LEAD, HE MAY HAVE TO WORK LIKE HELL TO MAKE UP FOR IT, THIS COULD LEAD TO HIM MAKING MISTAKES, OR WORST, PUNCHING HIMSELF OUT.

NEXT IN CHESS, BE ABLE TO SEE THE ENTIRE BOARD, NOT ONLY WHAT YOU'RE DOING, BUT WHAT YOUR OPPONENT IS DOING AS WELL. YOU'LL AVOID COSTLY MISTAKES THAT ARE JUST IMPOSSIBLE TO RECOVER FROM, UNLESS YOUR OPPONENT IS FOOLISH ENOUGH TO DO THE SAME. MISTAKES/BAD MOVES, WILL PROVE SEVERE AND LEAD TO YOUR DOOM ON THE BOARD/IN THE RING.

IN BOXING MOVING THE WRONG WAY CAN MEAN K.O. NEVER MOVE STRAIGHT BACKWARD (UNLESS YOU JAB IN THE PROCESS), MOVING BACK DESTROYS YOUR BALANCE AND ADDS MOMENTUM TO YOUR OPPONENTS FORWARD MOVEMENTS, TAKE ANGLES. MOVE IN THE DIRECTION OPPOSITE OF YOUR OPPONENTS POWER HAND AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. HE MAY DECIDE NOT TO DANCE, PLANT HIS FEET, TIME YOU AND KNOCK YOU OUT!

MIDDLEGAME:

IN CHESS PLAYERS TRY TO CONTROL THE CENTER, IN BOXING FIGHTERS SHOULD DO THE SAME. IT KEEPS YOU OFF THE ROPES AND OUT OF CORNERS; ALSO, THIS GIVES THE JUDGES THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE SAME FIGHT. IF YOU'RE ON THE ROPES OR IN THE CORNER, YOU MAY NOT BE GETTING HIT, BUT TO THE JUDGE(S) IT MAY LOOK LIKE YOUR GETTING YOUR BUTT KICKED, SO STAY IN THE CENTER AND CONTROL IT WITH PLENTY OF JABS.

EXCHANGES ARE ANOTHER PART OF CHESS SIMILAR TO BOXING. IN CHESS YOU WILL BE CAPTURED, IN BOXING YOU WILL GET HIT. CAPTURES CAN LEAD TO EXCHANGES, THE IDEA BEING, EXCHANGE WITH PIECES OF EQUAL VALUE, BETTER STILL- GREATER VALUE, OR WITHOUT GETTING YOUR PIECES CAPTURED AT ALL, CAUSE IF YOU LOSE TO MANY PIECES YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CHECKMATE LATER. COORDINATING PIECES EQUAL PUNCH COMBINATIONS, YOU CANT WIN WITH ONE PIECE OR ONE PUNCH.

EXCHANGES IN BOXING ARE CALLED, EYE BALL TO EYE BALL, OR TOE TO TOE BRAWLING. EXCHANGING PUNCHES WITH THE HOPES YOU ARE GETTING IN THE BETTER, CLEANER SHOTS, BUT IF YOU CAN GET IN AND OUT WITHOUT BEING HIT, THIS WOULD BE THE BEST. ASORBING PUNCHES OR GIVING/MISSING PUNCHES AGAINST A GOOD ELUSIVE DEFENSIVE FIGHTER OR A FIGHTER WITH A GOOD CHIN, WILL CAUSE YOU TO TIRE OUT AND CHANCES ARE YOU WON'T SURVIVE THE NEXT ROUND.

PROTECT YOUR KING, OR CASTLING, IN BOXING THIS IS KNOWN AS KEEP YOUR DAMN HANDS UP AND PROTECT YOUR CHIN. A SHOT ON THE CHIN SNAPS THE HEAD AND WOBBLES IT LIKE A BOBBLE HEAD DOLL, AND COULD LEAD TO A K.O. AND POTENTIAL HEAD INJURIES, SEE HEAD GEAR MYTH BLOGS ON MYSPACE.COM/4CWBOXING FOR MORE INFO.

ENDGAME:

CHECKMATE, IN CHESS YOUR KING HAS NO WAY OUT. IN BOXING THIS IS KNOWN AS THE WELL PLACED BODY SHOT(S) TAKE HIS OXYGEN, HE CAN'T BREATH, HE CAN'T MOVE, HE CAN'T FIGHT. WE'VE ALL SEEN THE TOUGHEST OF FIGHTERS STOPPED BY A GREAT BODY SHOT.

IN EITHER CHESS OR BOXING, THEY BOTH REQUIRE A GREAT DEAL OF THINKING AND CONCENTRATION, IF YOU CAN'T DO THIS, DON'T EVEN COMPETE.
