KEEP AT IT! (but be gentle with yourself)
It's been a while since I posted. Family, work and other good stuff has pulled more of my time and energy than it did earlier in the winter. As an adult improver, it is interesting to see what changes when my plan needs some modification.
One of looking at it could seem like a disaster story. I fell away from Chessable, I started playing more blitz and bullet and I stopped streaming my thought labs.
But still, I kept playing. I like to get all in on things, and it can be hard when the energy is not sustainable.
That's not a failure.
I've come to learn that there are seasons to things. Just because other parts of our life take the foreground, it doesn't mean the rest of the picture is not there. In these times, chess-wise, I just didn't have much to say. It wasn't a high focus. Now, as we get closer to the end of the school year, seasons are changing again and there is more time for chess stuff. So what does my chess landscape look like now?
1. Getting back to Rapid and streaming Thought Labs to make me work through options for each move.
2. Focusing more on tactics than openings.
3. Playing OTB as much as I can. There is not currently an active club in my area, but I have some friends who like to meet up and play.
4. Planning for tournaments. Unfortunately, the rest of my life is so booked up, I won't be able to play until November, but I am looking forward to going back to play my second tournament, much more prepared than I was for my first one.
I hope you're playing and having fun. For me, that will always involves plans for improvement. Keep at it folks.
